fuel injected engine into carbed body
Can anyone help? A few years ago I bought a beautiful red 1980 RX7 with wide tires that had a worn out engine. It wouldn't start and when I pulled it out I saw that the radiator was covered with mud. I bought an '84 for parts and put the 13B engine in, but didn't foresee the difficulty in hooking up the wires of a fuel-injected engine into the vehicle that wasn't. After trying new fuel injectors and another wiring harness that I've patched into the engine area of the car, it only runs when I ground out the fuel injectors with a wire. Even my wise mechanic can't get it running although it's been at his shop for a few years now.
Anyone with any suggestions? Lou

Well, I think your mechanic is incompetent. Just following the wiring diagrams can make the EFI pretty easy to hook up.
If this was my car, I'd go to a full standalone such as the Megasquirt. But I can understand how you would want it up and running, and if you run a carb, then you can leave the rest of the fuel system stock (uh, you did change the rest of the fuel system to match the EFI, right?).
Mazdatrix sells a set of manifolds that will allow you to mount either a Holley style or Weber style carb to your 6 port engine.

I would be questioning your mechanic as well. a diagram and some skill is all you need to wire up a fuel management system. Given i have never done it on an rx7 but i have done it on other cars like corolla GTS and 240sx. It just takes a little patience and time.
You might want to chat with your mechanic again and see what he has done. Hopefully there is no damage to anything.
Good luck
