Question Fuel consumption

I was wondering what the fuel consumption was like for city driving on a 3rd generation RX7 1999 - 2002 model.

Tricky question because everyone claims a different number.

One common answer though is: Poor.

That's what I feared. I was just hoping to assess how poor it is for budgetting purposes. Thanks for the info.

Fuel is going to be the least of your costs in owning a 3rd gen.

But figure on 10-14MPG on average.

Im going to have to agree with this. I am expecting slightly better millage then my old car though.

If mileage is a concern then this car probably isn't a good choice. It really depends how you drive. You could probably do even do better than 14mpg if you drive like some blue-hair.....but then why have the car.
The other costs are more frequent oil changes, and higher parts costs on a finicky aging two-seat sportscar.

Now, that's not to say that they aren't a good car. But there will be significant effort involved to bring the thing to a state where you don't experience some kind of failure every 10,000 miles. True, most of the problems were fixed by 1999-2002, but by now the car is at least 9 years old so don't expect a turn key vehicle.

While I'm a realist when it comes to the FD and maintenance costs, this is overstated.
I've had my car going on 9 years and about 60k. It's NEVER left me on the side of the road or in a parking lot. I've taken it on two trips of nearly 2000 miles and several other shorter ones with no issues. While my driving is probably a little more conservative than most, the car is also autocrossed occasionally and I'm not shy about ringing it out on a open section of road or vacant freeway ramp.
I've rebuilt it once, at ~90k for a coolant seal...which is average for these cars.
It's a complicated car for sure. IMO, many buy the car with little mechanical experience or a willingness to learn. It ends up getting a much worse rep than it deserves.
There are some objective articles and links in the 3rd Gen. stickys from degeesaman and others about buying and owning the car. Good reading for the OP.
