Fuel additives
Fuel additives
with any luck i'll own my first 7 tomorrow 88GXL na. So i remember back in the day my friend drove a t2 and every time he filled up he used 93 with 2 cylinder detergent added to it( like a half a pint). He said this helped lubricate the seals in the motor. I just want to know
1. How true this is?
2. What octane should i use for my na (been using 93 in the civic and corolla)?
3. And if this is true is there any other additives to help with engine life similar to the detergent or is the detergent a good cheap way out?

1. the oil injectors do this already.
2. 87 octane is all you need in an NA. For what it's worth, using 93 octane in a civic or corolla is a waste too. They'll require 87 as well; take a look in an owners manual. Only very high compression engines need to run higher octane for the knock resistance.
3. same as #1.

As far as cleaners or detergents go, you can run a can of Seafoam through the gas tank once a month or so to keep the motor carbon free and your apex seals moving freely. Great stuff!
And non turbo rotaries love low octane gas. The lower the better.
