First Power Adder Upgrade

I just picked up my first rotary this week, they've always interested me. I'm also new to the turbo. I've always worked on my own cars and motorcycles and do everything myself unless it requires special tools that are expensive or hard to get.

So I've got a 1990 RX7 turbo FC3S rhd from japan, already has 3inch full custom exhaust, upgraded suspension, roll cage, racing seat, and 2 aftermarket gagues. I'm planning to turn this into a road track car in the future. I'm looking for suggestions for my first power upgrades, i'm happy with the handeling but I want more pull from the motor. Thanks for any help I can get.

A full tuneup is a good start.

How much power do you want out of the car? For example, if your goals are out of the capability of the stock ECU, there is not much point in buying things like an FCD or S-AFC right now.

I would like to be able to cream a 92 viper (stock). So I was thinking 400 hp would do it. I'd like to gradually buy and add parts without pulling the engine to do any of it.

How much are you wanting to put into it, if u already have a nice exhaust, start stepping up the air/fuel, a standalone EFI is a must

here are a few pictures of the engine maybe you can see if there are any upgrades I didn't know of before. And I was wondering what's with all the beefy grounds, is that normal?

very clean... it still has stock plug wires , but a very clean car. Get a standalone EFI system, I don't wanna make up your mind for you but my buds been running a haltech with great success with 3 different turbos and numerous mods/setups,
Off topic but do you have pics of the car itself,
I would install a standalone EFI and start tuning that beauty

400HP will be a mid to high 11 second car if you can get it to hook up.

Don't bother gradually buying parts, it won't work. For example, a turbo upgrade (to something like the GT40R, T04R, etc.) requires all the other systems to be upgraded as well. It's an all or nothing proposition.

You can get buy without opening up the engine but with turbos that large, you really should be running upgraded ports to keep lag under control and allow you to get to those power levels without cranking the boost to ridiculous levels.

The grounds are generally added by people who don't have any idea how an automotive electrical system works. The same effect is accomplished by just fixing the stock grounds.

Sadly, not much in that engine bay regarding current upgrades is going to help you with your goal.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm going to start shopping and wait till winter to pull the engine out to get ported. Then I'll build it up. Thanks again.
