fe3 swap

I want to know what to do. To do an fe3 swap in an 1988 mx with an 12 valve 2.2L. I was wondering if i could keep the same wiring harness and ecu or if i should just swap it to something better?

All engine swap questions are basically answered the same way.

1. Get the service manual for both vehicles. These are often available online at the appropriate forum.

2. Compare wiring diagrams. Do they match? The answer will almost always be "no".

3. Compare engine mounts. Do they match? The answer will almost always be "no".

4. Compare transmission bellhousing pattern. Do they match? The answer will almost always be "no".

The short answer for your question is that no, it will not fit without a great amount of work.

I just did a megasquirt 16 valve 2.0 aba swap in my gti turbo. It has about 327 to the wheels.I just don't know anything about mazda its for my girl friend i was also thinking about just pulling the motor and rebuilding it also which would look like a better idea. I might just sell the car and get a different one just found out my girlfriend is pregnant.

the engine mounts do match up and the tranny is the same...the only differnce is the head i beleave...the f2t is a bigger motor but the fe3 has the potential to make more power after a build with boost...the fe3 is a n/a motor but the f2t turbo manifold bolts right up (i beleave)...they DO NOT make a manifold or turbo kit for the mx6 but u would be better off having an equal tubular length manifold made anyways...

all the info is on MX6.COM/FORUMS

I find it incredibly hard to believe that a Renesis rotary with it's bizarre engine mount (the exhaust manifold runs through the passenger mount) will bolt directly into the chassis of an MX-6 and even bolt to the transmission. Then again, stranger things have happened.

You will not want to control this engine with a Microtech or a Megasquirt. Neither one of which have enough outputs to run the complex intake system or the fly by wire throttle.

Wait a sec...are you not referring to an RX-8 when you say "FE3"?

fe3 is the euro/japan motor that came in the mx6...i beleve its a twin cam 2.0 liter instead on a single cam 2.2 liter turbo motor...and there was a guy on the forums that swap a 13b into one....gave a whole right up but at the same time this was like 4 or 5 years back when i had one

OK, so why are you posting about a piston engine swap into an MX-6 on an RX-7 forum? You should be on the MX-6 forums asking this question.

Go to mx6.com and look up Fred's (i think thats who did it) stroker build or the FAQ in the FE-DOHC section. Lots of good information there

This is a website for RX-7s. They have rotary engines. You need to ask your questions on a more appropriate forum. This is very off topic for this site. That's why you first got crappy advice from me as I assumed you were talking about a rotary swap.
