WI FD Tach Issue

I have extensively searched the archives and have not found a lead. I have a 93 CYM. Oroiginally I had two problems; tach and speedo were inoperative and the odometer numerals would not show (backlight was fine). I cleaned all connections and replaced all of the capacitors on the speedo board. Upon reinstallation, the tach and speedo came back to life but the odometer numerals still didn't show. I left the gauge cluster plugged in over night and found a dead battery the next afternoon. I disconnected the gauge cluster and charged the battery. While plugging in the gauge cluster I noticed a high frequency ticking sound that I traced to the tachometer. I consequently suspect the tach as the power draw. Does anyone know what could be wrong with the tach? Any additional steps to take to regain the odometer numerals? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
