FC Hard Start While Engine is Hot

Hi Guys, I have recently purchased a 1990 GTU rx7 and i noticed today that after it has warmed up i shut her off and let it sit for about 5 minutes and went to go start it back it up and it just turned over and over and over. I would hold my foot down on the gas all the way and it got worse like it didnt want to start. After i let it sit for a little longer i tried at it again and finally got it to start but kinda had to get on and off the gas. But it starts easy when cold. Ive been told it might be the coolant temp sensor thats fooling the ecu but i decided to try to get a lil more wisdom on the subject. Thanks

Classic hot start issue. Have the injectors professionally serviced at an injection shop.

Ill defiantly look into it thanks, i also cleaned the spark plugs today and noticed they were a bit carbonized or fouled out as you would say. I cleaned all four and it started very quickly when cold and better when hot. Would i be better off just changing the injectors though?

Cleaning the injectors is cheaper than "changing them".That is if you are going to just replace them with new ones.
Cleaning is about 20-25 per injector.
Get new Orings and grommets when you get them cleaned.

I am In Canada, and I sent my injectors to Injector-Rehab Fuel Injector Cleaning Services (aka KGParts.com)
Keith gets the job done quickly.
I sent them and got them back in 10 days..so Canada to US and back in 10 days is fantastic!
That is why I recommend him.

Just when you go to put the transmission back in.
The engine needs to be tilted a bit to let the input shaft slide in and the bell housing mate up.
If you take your plastic belly tray off you can get at the front pulley and throw a piece of 4x4 and a jack under it.jack the front of the engine up (so it looks like it will fly out of the engine bay sort of thing),and that will allow you to put the trans on and get at the top trans/engine bolts easier too.
Just don't jack it up too far as there are things that can squish up against the firewall.

So it basically will just tilt the engine back.

it has gotten better its not completely gone its started to do it while its cold now sometimes. When it finally starts though i noticed that fuel smell is strong so im pretty sure its almost flooding out every start. I have to tap the gas once or twice to get it to actually crank.

I also have an FC with the same hot start issue. Is a liquid fuel injector cleaner a viable option for the short term ?

This same car also showed the huge white cloud of steam associated with a coolant seal issue, but only a couple times. Is this cloud ONLY a coolant seal issue or could the two be somehow related ?

Injector cleaner is for the most part a preventative treatment as opposed to cleaning a clogged injector.

You might want to check the Pressure Regulator Solenoid as it is used in warm starts. It's supposed to boost the fuel pressure some on a hot start for a specific length of time as indicated in the service manual.

I was looking to buy a 2nd gen 7 with a problem similar to this, however, vehicle would drive/perform fine up to about a mile in which it would stall. It would start up again after cooling for a while, same cause or different do you think? I was thinking something in the intake such as MAF sensor, wasn't aware of a hot start issue.

If it Starts fine and idles fine cold and than warms up and still idles fine its not the MAF. But i would check to see what it does when it warms up with out driving it. If it dies once warmed up id say it could be a compression problem but im not 100% on that. I havent heard anything like that before.

Yea, it was very strange. The only only other thing I thought of was a blockage in the exhaust that would choke the motor and then once dissipated, allow the motor to run again until pressure built up.

How could heat affect compression to the point it would stall?

Blockage in the exhaust isnt a uncommon problem with these cars. My cat is currently clogged to the point where it blew my exhaust gasket at the flange before the cat. Which is why i have a racing beat header with mid pipe and apexi exhaust. I have heard of compression problems before while engine is hot but im not sure. I would try disconnecting the exhaust piping before the cat and see if the helps. Also check for vacuum leaks, I know with mine the brake booster vacuum line was leaking a little bit causing a rough idle/stall when warmed up but while cold the BAC would keep it running. Hope that helps!
