FB Headlight motor failure

Hi All,
Recently acquired an FB RX-7. The passenger side headlight doesn't go up when I hit the switch, so I removed the mechanism (retractor?) to troubleshoot. Seems like the lift mechanism will backdrive when it reaches a certain load/position. Almost sounds like gears grinding when it does this. So basically the motor turns a few revolutions, then the gear slips and it starts raising up again until it reaches the same point.

So is this rebuild-able? OR should I just look for a new motor assembly?
