IN Factory Specs from Vin???

I recently purchased an '87 FC. As it sits curently I has NA engine, 5 speed stick, 2 seats, Cruse, AC, a fog light switch on the center console, manual windows, Spoiler, most of a powered antena, manual cloth seats. What I don't know, because it was removed, 2+2 & sterio. Is there any way, from the list given, or from the VIN to determine how this car rolled out of the factory? I was a little embarrased to take the car to the BMV to register it and I don't know what trim level it is (and it wasn't marked on the prior title)

The VIN doesn't tell you much. Here's a quote from the FAQ:

The North American Vehicle Identification Number breaks down like this:

RX-7 86-88 (8/85 - 12/88)
JM1 FC 33 1 * G 0 ######
JM1= Mazda Passenger Car
FC = RX7 Series
33= Coupe
35= Convertible
1= 1308cc 13B rotary non-turbo
2= 1308cc 13B rotary turbo
*= Check Digit
G= 1986
H= 1987
J= 1988
0= Hiroshima Plant
######= Serial Number
But the standard specs thread still has the 1987 info here: https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx-7-technical-256/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-782409/. You can see if a model's list of features matches your car.

Thanks, I saw both of those. I was hoping that someone may have found the factory build specs somewhere.
My cars features don't fit the spec sheet for any trim
15" rims - Sport or GXL.
No rear window wiper, so it's not a GLX
Highback seats, not GLX
Cruise control.. WAIT , only standard on GLX and Turbo. Not listed as option for other models.
No tilt stearing, not GLX
No power windows, not GLX
No power steering, not sport
Sport tuned suspension.. wouldn't know if it bit me in the a$$.
Were some N/A's on the list actually O's? My car was built in late '86.

Wells most of those things say it's likely a base, sport or luxury model. What about the window glass, does it have a blue tinted strip at the top? It's a good bet that the previous owner modified the car with parts from other models, but I doubt the glass would have been swapped.

4lug wheels say it's a base or luxury model, but then the glass says it's a GXL. And you also have a (GTU?) spoiler, so it's a mutt. On other other hand, is that an orange light on the fender (behind the wheel)? If it is, you might have a Euro-spec car. I'd have no idea what the options were on Eurpean models.

That's an SE (base) model. Only the base model had 4-lug wheels, and the S4 GXL & GTU had just about all the options.

Other year's spec sheets found here in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/restoring-stickies-after-passing-icemark-850967/.

Yep, that's an orange side marker. A mutt you say, or euro.... I may have to pony up the $30 for a carfax and find out if that will tell me what it left the factory with.. Anyone w/ an unlimited carfax account that wouldn't mind running my vin?????

the previous owner could have done those things to the car. i think you have an SE or base model. what measurements are used on the gauge clusters (speedo and oil pressure)?

also you said your car's build date was late 1986. the Gen II guys would know better, but to me, that spoiler is definitely not model year correct. wouldn't they have still been using that "Aero Package"(or whatever it was called)-option on the Turbo and GXL? the rear spoiler should be polyurethane and only seen from the rear or side profile, right?

The spoiler is definitely not correct for a US '87 model-year RX7. Base (and luxury?) had no spoiler at all, the sport had the aero package w/ a small black spoiler, the GXL had the sport spoiler as an option, the GTU had none I guess, and the TII had a wrap-around spoiler like the one one the OP's car. The '88 GTU had the TII spoiler, but it wasn't standard in '87. If it's an US-spec car, it had to have started out as a base or luxury model, since no one in their right mind would remove 5 lug wheels/hubs in favor of 4 lug.

But if it is a Euro-spec car, then it could have had totally different options and standard features.

Here's a better shot of the spoiler. The paint is chipped on it, it was black at one time. I'll take a few more photos today if the sun comes out.

Here's a shot of the left side of the cluster. Wire from the oil presure switch is lose, not sure why the amp gauge went dead yet. It was working 10 min before I took this photo.

I thought it was late 86, it's actually 7/86

Wow, I missed an obvious indicator that it's not a 2+2... spec plate states number of seats! Is it better to get the storage boxes and put the car back to factory, or get a seat set? (hmm, better get all the electrical gremlins out first!
Oh, and Rims... R14 from the factory. Looks like it fits the Luxury package specifications ... except for the cruise control. I can't imagin it wouldn't have been an option.

I'm wondering if the side markets were after-market add ons. They are wired into the turn signals.
