Does the car have its full emissions equipment in tact?

Why did you just get the car running? Has it been sitting? Is it a project?

the car had been sitting for 6months before i bought it. the cat is gone and i blocked off the (ACV) and removed the air pump but thats it for emisions being gone. and no its not a project its gonna be my daily driver. could it be the idleing screw? also one of thoes intake runners that have valves to open them are stuck open or closed im not sure witch cause the shaft that sticks out is broke off at the manifold but i havnt drivin the car yet so the rpms havnt gone up enough for thoes to open so are they a problem right now? and could that have anything to do with the gas smell or high idle?

If the car has been sitting for 6 months, have the injectors professionally serviced.

Then, apply a full tuneup. Plugs, wires, filters, TPS adjustment, coolant change.

Check the CLT sensor is reading within factory specs.

Check the timing.

Yep, as you suspect, a broken aux port actuator is a bad thing. What sucks is that the only way to fix it is to pull the lower intake.

Don't mess with the idle mixture adjustment unless you are absolutely sure that the car is working properly to begin with.

Note that all stock ECU rotary cars will have a stinky exhaust if the cat is removed. If this is a daily driver, it makes more sense to keep the air pump and ACV and just install a high flow cat.

Why not just fix the aux port valves?

it doesn't have to be done right away, but don't be intimidated by taking apart the manifolds. it will be worth it to clean them out and clean the actuator rod, manifold, and sleeves thoroughly. plus it really isn't that hard even with basic hand tools.

if its the actuator rod that is broken you might try to visit a junkyard and pull off a spare lower manifold that you can soak in parts cleaner along with the actuator rods and sleeves. fyi, the rods themselves are about $40 a piece at mazda if i remember correctly so just try not to break them when extracting them from the manifold
