Exhaust Issue

Hey guys, im a noob when it comes to this so dont be as rough with me. I had recently bought a 87 RX7 as a project car. The car had an exhaust leak which ended up being a hole in the muffler ( connected to the cat ). If I punched the gas, the car would sound as if it were farting, but pressing on the gas nice and smooth i could red line it all day. I bought a OBX racing exhaust, its 3' piping my question is, if i get 3' piping headers would it still be a direct bolt-on installion and would it delete the cat or would i have to purchase a new one ?

Really need help with some, thanks in advance.

only if the headers are compatible i think. dont quote me on this.

this isnt that important but if you want max power gain with a sexy sounding exhaust i suggest you look into racing beat exhaust.

yes you would need to replace the oem cat with a, for example, bonez high flow cat. i personally would only use 3inch piping if i was running a larger port.

Every header manufacturer is different. You need to check the applications first before buying it as I know some delete the cat, some don't, etc. etc.. OBX probably has different variations of the header also. If the car is NA you are in for one heck of a loud car running 3" piping. In terms of power, maybe 5hp if that. Probably none with OBX stuff lol.

90% of the aftermarket exhaust flanges have the same bolt patterns if its a 2 or 3 bolt flange

3in is a nice feel on my turbo II. It's high flow but not very loud like I would of expected. I've had people not be able to buy it because the cat was removed though so be weary of that. If you can afford it make sure it's a direct fit having to custom attach stuff is not worth the hassle IMO
