Engine power

I just purchase an ex spec RX-7 , 1983 with a 12a motor, Holley carb and a 2.5" exhaust. What kind of power does this put out? I don't know what porting is in there, but with 2.5" exhaust, I doubt if it is stock. Can someone give me some insight? The car is a former national champion in SCCA spec RX-7 class.

160HP at the engine maybe. 120 - 130 at the wheels. Without porting the 12A is very restricted. The exhaust ports are miniscule.

I just returned from Pocono Raceway. We did 4 sessions of 20 minutes, used up 10 gallons of fuel and had a blast. Not much torque, but with the old Hackook Ventus tires, I was able to keep up and run down much bigger and faster cars. From my experience with Porsches, the performance of this little RX7 would justify about 140 or so HP. This is best car investment I have made for the most fun.
Now we will lighten the car, add a IMSA wing, and go LeMons racing!!

Looking at your posts, you probably have lots of experience. I am not interested in the actual HP number, cause I am not a bragger, but I am looking to see where I can increase the performance other than the nut behind the wheel. I will probably lighten the car another 60 or so pounds by removing the dash, window glass and door panels. I will also switch out the 13" wheels for which I can not get tires, to 15" wheels with 225/45x15 tires.

Without porting the motor you're pretty much at the max. Yes, an FB with stock ports will lap with the Porsches. Only difference is you're having more fun.
