Engine Cutting Off During Idle
Engine Cutting Off During Idle
Hey y’all. Trying to diagnose this vexing issue I’m having with my 95 JDM FD.
The issue - After 30 minutes of normal driving, my engine will cut off during idle w/ no throttle. Electronics stay on, power windows stay on, power steering cuts. I can keep the engine from cutting off by giving it gas, so at stop lights I’m usually heel-toeing to keep the RPMs up. It seems like highway speeds prolong how long I can drive it before it starts cutting off vs city driving with lower speeds, intersections, etc. I suspect it’s an engine temp issue but not certain. My FD seems to run at 83C on highway but I’ve seen it get to the high 80s and 90s in the city. During idle I will also get the warning light on my dash for exhaust heat/catalytic converter overheat but the light will turn off as soon as I give it gas.
Relevant info - I’m running an Apexi PFC, I put a brand new IAC valve in, and I tested the throttle position sensor & results came back normal so I know those two parts are not the culprit. Coolant temp sensor seems to be functioning as expected too.
I’ve been lurking on the forums for some time now, reading different threads of users with similar issues to try and find an answer but I’m still coming up short. Would love to be able to get this resolved so I can fully enjoy driving my FD.

How did you "test" the tps? its either in range or out of range. Have you checked all the grounds? After 30 min of driving where are the temps at? Have you noticed this shut off while in gear with no throttle or simply at a light in neutral?
After 30 minutes of driving temps are at 82-83C. In gear with no throttle the engine will not shut off, only when in neutral (or clutch depressed) and no throttle.
Are you running the base map on the PFC? under setting -> rev/idle what values do you have. I had a similar issue with mine after the car was fully warmed up. Lets start with the easy stuff, with a multi-meter check the voltage at the fuel pump during crank and when the engine turns over.
