NJ e-fan good idea or bad idea?

my car is a 90 gtu 5 speed 6 port non turbo, i have a full exhaust straight pipes no cat with a pacesetter header, atkins rotory aux port sleeves and im just curious about electric fans, some people say they free up some power but i just read a write up saying the power they draw makes the alternator work too hard and u und up losing power, im just tryin to make this engine as quick as i can on my stock ports till i either build a motor or do a tII swap any advice would be appreciated

Long story short, it greatly depends on the fan. For example, some electric fans have a more efficient blade design so may take less power than others. Then again, the stock clutch fan freewheels when not needed so it's not like it draws power all the time. Just like an e-fan.

So my opinion is to leave the stock fan in place unless you have a reason to change like needing more room for intercooler piping or because the stock fan clutch died.

I'm sure some will disagree with me, but an e-fan is generally for looks and making room in the engine bay. The stock clutch fans actually work very well. Some say they've had them fail, but I have yet to see it.

and also if the fan blades spin freely with the engine off and you dont feel any drag on them then all the viscous fluid has seeped out and they prob. wont turn fast enough to keep the engine cooled down,i wish someone needed one cause i got like 4 of em lol

I agree fully!
If you want make the engine bay a little more easy to put a wrench to,then put in an efan,as it would get rid of the old stock shroud.
But the Stock rad, shroud and fan work very well together.
OH..I forgot that the shroud also is a great place to put tools when workin on the car.,haha!

The shroud did make a great a tool holder. I had a free e-fan with nice brackets, so out the stock fan went. Of course I ended up spending $150 on a fan controller, but it looks nice.

I may end up switching to a e-fan since I had to actually trim the blades on my stock fan to keep them from making contact with my upper rad hose. But I have to say, the fan still pulls a great amount of air. I"m just scared to have a motor mount go out and my fan take out my cooling system!

Here is a pic of the set up...
