WA dying fc!

So earlier today my 7 died out on the highway from cruzing at 70. It slow started bogging and would get worse if I pressed on the throttle more and it slowly would lose power until it died. It was doing it last night when I got home but it started fine the next morning. It also had trouble idling and after it died today I couldn't even turn on any electricals.

I did a full tune up before this happened and it ran fine until today. What could be the issue? I looked around and someone said it could be a fuel system issue. What do you guys think?

welcome.

okay, i'll ask the obvious first question what shape are the battery and alternator in?

from your description, overall, it does sound like maybe a dead fuel pump, but the pump alone does not explain the additional lack of electricity to the car. however, if there is a problem getting power to the car, then you can't check the pump or anything else for that matter.

The alternator isnt looking too good (around 13 amps or less, bouncy figures) and i got a replacement but i just havent put it in yet. The battery is practically new.

Now the car's electricals turn on and i havent tried starting it since yesterday. It's weird how there was no electrical response for a short period of time after it dying, what could be the cause of that?

So how can i test if the fuel pump is in working condition?

It seems to have the idling issue once its warmed up and after ive driven it for a few miles and then it idles around 500rpms bouncing up and down.

sounds like a possible fuel pump like diabolica1 said, but this exact thing happened to me and it was the alternator. And 13 amps is a little low but that might explain the bogging with the rpms because the engine is not getting a strong enough spark....i would suggests to get it tested first

A loose connection somewhere starting at the battery to the engine fuse box to the ignition switch is the likely scenario.

new battery and intermittent loss of total power? i'd say check your ground(s). i think Aaron Cake has a writeup on his site. i'm off to work right now, but if you can't find it, i'll see if i can link it tomorrow.

Aaron Cake's writeup

you can also buy or download a shop manual and get some ideas from there, too. good luck with it.
