From the factory, the engine is equipped with a metering oil pump to meter a small amount of engine oil into the carburetor. This lubricates the apex, side and corner seals.

Now, this pump may have been removed for a variety of (mostly stupid) reasons. So, you need to find out if you have one. Looking at the front of the engine, on the exhaust manifold side of the front cover, you should find a tiny pump tucked sort of under the water pump housing with two lines leading up to the carb, and a rod that leads to the throttle lever. This is the metering oil pump.

The picture below shows the pump. Now obviously the engine in the picture isn't anything close to a carbureted 12A, but the pump is in the same place and the bright blue oil lines make it clear to see:

If the metering oil pump is present and connected to the carb, then you are good to go. No mixing is required.

However if all you find is a blockoff plate, the pump has been removed for some (stupid) reason and you'll need to premix your fuel. Here's an example of a blockoff plate installed:

Premix ratio is one ounce per gallon of any quality two stroke oil.
