So, I have found a relatively nice 89 FC near me that has a GTU sticker on it. It sort of difficult to tell the differences between the two. After a bit of reading I found out that the GTUs had a LSD, 16" wheels and a few other options. Is it really as simple as the sticker on the fender? Are the wheels tell tell as well?

Nevermind haha. After some searching here I found the wheels are a good way to tell. Also, the seller confirmed it's just a GTU.

 

There is hardly any difference between an 89 GTU and 89 GTUs, and there is no telling what parts the cars have on them 26 years after they left the showroom floor. For example, the red car in your picture has aftermarket tires, the blue car in your picture is missing the door trim and has aftermarket mufflers, and I am sure that if I inspected them I would find many other parts that were not originally on the car back in 1989.

I don't see any point in worrying about minor details. If you really want to, you can install a LSD, larger wheels, and GTUs stickers on a GTU. For that matter, you could strip the car and add a full roll cage, V10 engine, widebody kit, glow in the dark paintjob, and a jacuzzi. Currently, no 86-92 RX-7 has any significant collector value, so don't let any fake internet 'collector car' nonsense influence your shopping.

 

The 10AEs don't hold higher value KBB or NADA wise?

 

The 10AE lists for about $200 more than a regular 88 TII, and that's just because the original price was more.

 

It's not a collector car listing. I was just curious about tell tell ways to see the difference. The car pictures were only referencing the stickers. I see your point though. Thank you
