dies when started cold

ok i bought my first rx7 a while ago, it is a 1988 SE. it think it is all stock.

the only problem with it is that when started cold (not cold outside) it will stall unless i rev it a little when the rpms start to drop. after i rev it once or twice it is fine. it runs good other than this it starts great warm and i don't think it smokes at all.

any help would be appreciated i did search and couldn't find anything.

When you start the car, does the engine fly up to 3K for about 17 seconds and then drop to a steady 1500, then gradually drop down to 750RPM as it warms up?

If the answer is "no" to any of those, then something is wrong with the cold start system.

Don't worry about the 3K startup so much as it is just designed to light off the cats and isn't the greatest thing for the engine.

If you aren't getting the 1500 RPM cold idle, check the cold start cam assembly.

ok when i start it it does go up to 3k rpms for a second or two then it slowly drops alll the way down and stalls But if i rev it back up to 3k it will go according to plan. (down to 1500 and then slowly down from there.)

thanks for the answers guys!

Check the BAC valve. It might be dirty, clogged, unplugged, etc.
