Destroyed distributor cap
Hey all,
I replaced a distributor cap because the old one had the internal posts worn down. Now the new cap is now destroyed. See pics. The posts have obviously made contact with with the rotor, one of the posts is even knocked over at a 90 degree angle.
If you look at one of the pics with the flashlight highlighting the inside wall of cap, it actually wore a groove into cap.
Now, i know there are several easy causes for this, with a bent distirbutor shaft being the culprit, to even putting the cap on crooked. I cranked motor with cap off, and visually rotor looks dead on. I know when I put new cap on i was fairly diligent to make sure it was on straight ( i saw that little metal cap inside the distributor and noticed how easy it would be to goof this installation up.)
This was most likely a mess up on my part, but has anyone ran into this before? I just keep thinking that I got it on straight, but something went wrong.
Thanks!
xxfoldem
PS, car went from running great (about thousand miles on new cap), to nothing while driving on highway about 4k rpm
