definitive guide for 3K RPM hesitation troubleshooting?

Hi,

I understand that the hesitation/bucking at 3K under light boost is a very common problem and has been hashed and rehashed...

I'm just wondering if that has resulted in a final word on all possible causes and a flowchart or guide to eliminating the problem.

Something sticky somewhere I haven't been able to find?

My car has this problem intermittently from nonexistent to really severe.

Thanks

Another thought / question...

Another thing that hasn't shaken out of what I've read on the subject...

Am I right in thinking this problem only happens with the stock ECU? That, if nec., I could replace the ECU to for-sure fix this problem?

To your second question I answer YES, any aftermarket ECU fixes the problem for sure.

...and it's the only thing that solves the problem.

Grounding has worked for some but not all. The root cause has never to my knowledge been determined.

Thank you guys.

Any recommendations for an aftermarket ECU for somebody who wants to keep the car as stock as possible?

Fixing this problem would be the primary motive for me, so I'd be looking for the most plug compatible and (secondly), least expensive option available.

Thoughts?

I recently fixed my 3k hesitation by installing a power FC on my completely stock '93...probably not the cheapest option out there, but it worked, and I will never have to worry about upgrading the ECU ever again.

Oh I also used to stall every time I came to a stop with the A/C on. The Power FC fixed that too. It took me a while to finally justify the purchase, but I don't regret it at all.

Hmm, on my car, the thing on the throttle body that opens one of the butterflies, wasn't opening. The thing that I am talking about has a vacuum line to it. Mine was stuck shut.
