curious about buying an 86 non-turbo
there's a kid by me that wants to sell his 86 non-turbo. i think the car is in awesome condition, he has a body kit, new wheels and tires, painted dark grey, an audio system, and some interior and engine work.
i'm not 100% sure on the specifics, but i'm absolutely interested in buying. he's selling it for $6000 but unfortunately i have to wait til june when i graduate for my family to help me with the money. i want to give the guy some cash after me and him meet up and actually go over the car and how good it is, you know just to assure that i'll def have the car. kind of like a down payment type of thing haha.
but yeah, some of my family think it might be a bad idea because "it's an old car and probably has a lot of mileage on it." i understand where they are coming from, but i have my heart set on this car.
i've wanted an rx7 more than any car, second only to a 94 supra hah. this car is gorgeous, and from what i understand, rx7 owners take amazing care of their cars if they really love them.
my problem is, i'm not sure yet how much mileage is on the car and that's my only worry. i don't want to drop 6 grand on this car and then get screwed a month later.
what is a good amount of miles for this car to have for 6 grand with a lot of work in?
i'm meeting up with him on friday to go over everything, and once i know what's in the car and how many miles are on it i can post it.
i'm just curious about how good this car will be with X amount of miles on it. i'm new to the whole rx7 thing, right now i'm driving a 95 automatic nissan sentra my grandma passed down to me.
somebody help me out!

Unless the car is showroom condition with less then 50K on the clock and has been modified impeccably (ie. the body kit), then $6000 is a ridiculous amount of money. Start at $2000 and go from there, depending on the specifics.

aaron cake thanks for the link, now i have a better idea of what to look for in the car when me and him meet up and check everything out.
i don't have any pictures at the moment, but i will take some when we meet on friday. he keeps the car in the driveway, and 90% of the time it has a tarp over it. 10% of the time it's most likely blown off from heavy winds.
from what i got from him and his sister, he's taken awesome care of it. he said he only had it for about a year before he took it off the road. he works and goes to school in the city but comes back to his house on the weekends. unfortunately i alternate going to new jersey on weekends with my girlfriend and me and him were supposed to meet sunday and we got mixed up so we couldn't meet.
i'll have like 2,300 cash this week from an old check i never cashed so maybe me and him could talk money eventually.
but like i said, once i know more specifics i'll write them down and post them up, along with some pics some pics
thanks!

i agree, 6 g's? no way. even kbb dosent come close to that.
if the kid put a body kit on it and an audio system he probably beat the crap outta the car internally, and worried about how "dope" it looked to everyone else. my suggestion is to get a compression test, and have it get a oneover by a mechanic.
