Coolant Leak

Hey guys, my fd is leaking coolant. Idk where it's coming from and as I am limited to driving to work to use the garage there I am scared to drive it over there too much to see what's wrong... as I'm writing this I was gonna post a pic of under my hood and realized the tank on the right of the picture with the yellow cap, I believe is the AST? The hose there is not attached so that might be the problem. Also in an attempt to refill the coolant I filled up the filler neck on the left which started pouring coolant and water all over the ground. Would that one hose be the problem?
Also when I pulled the dip stick for that, there was this gray gunk and when I cleaned it and put it back in there was no more when I pulled it out again.

Sorry for being all over the place. I'm still learning and don't know where to start.

First, let's start with the disconnected hose. The Air Separation Tank is the radiator cap attached to your intercooler next to the battery. The AST has 3 hoses.

The one at the top goes to your overflow (the overflow is the one with the Black cap with a dip stick, it will leak coolant if it's over full) The one in the middle comes from the engine fill neck and the bottom one goes to the radiator. All 3 need to be connected or it will leak coolant. Check and tighten the loose hose should fix it. If you need more room to work on the AST, remove the battery to get access.

When filling with coolant, make sure to do this when the engine is cold. Take off the AST and Engine Filler Caps, fill the AST first until it is full and put the cap on. Then finish filling at the engine fill neck. As long as the overflow has some coolant in it, it doesn't need to be full.

Welcome.
Since coolant leaks are, in the grand scheme of things, pretty easy to diagnose, probably anything you’re capable of dealing with is in the FAQ sticky at the top of this section.
Beyond that, the factory service manual is available here... Mazda RX-7 Reference Materials . It’s for LHD but the vast majority of info for your car will be the same.
Maybe I misunderstood you but I strongly recommend you spend some quality time studying at least the basics if you’re trying to daily drive a RHD turbocharged 30 year old sports car that was a little finicky even when new.

Wow! That is a really nice engine bay. Welcome to the forum. PM me if you ever make it to cars and coffee Pensacola. The repair manual and the FAQ on the forum are your best friends.

This is from the FAQ https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...thread-571088/
Basic rundown of everything you need to understand about the cooling system on these cars.
