Coolant burst

after reading robinettes rx7 guide or aaron's rx7 guide i am still denying the need of a rebuild because of such low kms on my car (37,000km) i can't really seem to pin point the problem of my car. i just bought it today, drove it home on the highway for about an hour in raining condition averaging 120km/hr - 140km/hr and just before i got home i noticed steam coming out of my coolant overflow bottle so i pulled over immediately offing the car noticing the coolant gauge had jumped from 1/2 to full in no time. i could hear bubbling noises coming from the coolant reservoir and coolant was spewing out. there is green coolant everywhere but there seems to be some kind of brown substance in it? i waited for the car too cool off completely and opened the radiator cap and i scraped the walls of the cap with my finger and noticed my finger was covered in some brown substance which is also on the dip stick of the coolant bottle neck. my car still starts but i have not been driving it or starting it since this happened, im assuming my motor is toast. when i dump water into the coolant bottle neck it never fills up to the neck because water will just leak out onto the floor....

1992 FD3S (37,000km) original motor never rebuilt, fully stock, automatic transmission, i appreciate you taking your time to read this, any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you have that big of a leak, it should be easy to identify where it is coming from. Well, OK, not easy, nothing seems to be easy under the hood, but you should be able to find where it is leaking. It could be something as simple as a burst hose, bad connection etc....

If you stopped the engine as soon as it happened, you may be fine. Just find the leak, fix it, and then see where you are at.

if coolant is coming coming out onto the ground right after you top it up you proberbly have a burst hose / a hose that has come off..
jack your car up and have someone else pour coolant into the car while you look from underneath where its leaking from. good luck

easiest way to find a coolant leak buy borrow a coolant pressure tester and presurise the system.... i use this tool at least 2 times a week at my job.

pressurise the system to about 20psi and see if the gauge looses pressure..

found out where the leaking was actually just replaced the hose, but what concerns me the most right now is brown liquid in my coolant, its more of a red substance actually now that i look at it, its all around the rad cap when i open it, still scared to drive the car because of this, any idea what this might be? im going to flush the coolant and see if i get better results.

if your talking about the white plastic overflow bottle it will never fill up to the neck as there are holes in the top of the container. that is just the overflow and you fill it to what the dipstick says. if you need to fill coolant you need to fill the AST and engine caps. eerrr...wheres a pic.

It could be some type of Coolant Stop Leak that was put in by previous owner. Just because the car only has 20K miles or so doesn't mean the seals aren't bad. The owner could have over-driven the car to the point it overheated several times and then he threw in the stop leak to cover up early signs of water seal failure...

You should get a compression test done on the motor as well and perform one of those coolant pressure tests, done overnight if possible... maybe even a coolant carbon test as well to see if exhaust gases are leaking into the coolant (champagne bubbles).

Hopefully, it's just some obscene and obvious coolant leak from a hose or the radiator itself. Is the radiator stock? Maybe it has a crack somewhere, and that could be why there is this muddy substance from some type of stop leak.

I wouldn't drive it either until you got these issues resolved and gave it a 60K mile tune up.

Post some pics while you're at it!

^^ No offense, but that is one nasty looking engine bay.
