Convertible Questions

I just sold my 88 Mustang GT convertible:

And now I am looking for a RX7 convertible.
I found one for like 1500$, I know it seems cheap and I wish the craigslist posting didn't expire.
But it seemed like a clean car. Red with a black top.
Had like 110 or 120k miles, apex seals replaced at 80k I think.
The car has been sitting for a few months.

Is this a good price? I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty. Is there anything specific to look out for on convertibles?

You just gotta go into like you would looking at most other old used vehicles, check all the electrical components to make sure they are working, do the obvious searching for rust and such, and check the top condition, they usually tend to form small rips behind the drains on both the driver and passenger sides.

Also top leaks are a big one, sometimes the seals go on the top and water can drain into the car through the channels, I would ask to run some water over it or check the carpet to see if water has been in there before. When leaking does occur it tends to be behind the driver and passenger seats or in front.

As for the price, if the body is in good condition and the engine is strong, 1500 seems fair but don't be afraid to talk him down if you find a flaw with anything. I'm sure there's more Ive left out specific to the vert, but I cant think of many more huge problems I've encountered with mine.

Sometimes you can find a good steal for $1500. I paid $1500 for my 88 vert and it's solid as a rock. Has had a engine replacement around 25k miles ago too.

Update. Couldn't get it started.
Put the jumper pack on the battery terminals, turned the key and nothing. Not even a buzzing noise telling me the door was open. So I flipped the headlights on and they both popped up and turned on. I held the clutch pedal down and again tried cranking it. Nothing. Any idea what could be going on?
Car has been sitting since 2002!!
Anyway pictures. It needs centercaps, driver's mirror, other small things like a front bumper repaint.

Also it had the OE CD player and cassette deck.

Correction, inspection sticker says 2002 but according to an AutoCheck report, the car was last registered in 2004 with 104k and it now has 112k.

damn that thing is in pretty good condition for the price, I expected the top to be in shambles for the price. Well if it has been sitting as long as you say I would get the compression tested before you do anything else, but you said the seals were replaces alittle over 20k ago so I imagine they would still be fine. Then go about getting a routine tune up done: new batt, flush coolant, oil, change belts and plugs all that good stuff.

But for 1500 that really was a steal, as for the cd player I still have the stock one in mine and that thing works perfectly plays all my burned cds and everything. That wing is pretty sick too.

Did a Carfax and this came up:
Vehicle inspected after an accident or other incident. Damage ro right front and pillar.

And if you notice you can actually see how the bumper and headlight cover aren't aligned right.

That is exactly what I have. try black dragon auto for parts. It's a great looking ride once everything is up and running.
