QC Which clutch should I get between these 3 to replace the one on my '86 na rx7

Hi everyone,

I need to replace the clutch on my ’86 non-turbo rx7. I want to keep the same "feel" that I had with my OEM clutch considering I recently learned to drive a manual car and my rx7 is 99% stock. However, since I want to upgrade the car later I guess that a Stage 1 clutch (OEM feel and oriented toward street performances) would suit my needs perfectly?

I found these 3 kits which, from what I heard and read, are good brands:

#1. ACT ZX2-HDSS

• Heavy Duty Pressure Plate: Clamps load increase of 20% to 50%, Pedal feels stock to moderate, Many SFI Certified to insure safety
• Performance Disc: Recommended for Street and Race, Quicker engagement, Quiet operation, Best organic friction material, improved hub and burst strength

$517.97

#2. Clutchmasters 10-008-HD00

• Stage 1 Steel-Backed, Organic
• Heavy Duty 2200-3700 lbs

$257.00

#3. EXEDY 10806

• Stage 1
• Street Strip performance, Organic Disc and Upgraded Pressure Plate

$254.74

The ACT is a bit over my budget considering I’ll have the clutch installed by my mechanic so unless it REALLY is the best, the clutchmasters or exedy would be more in my price range. Also, is replacing the flywheel a good idea since it’s near the clutch or is it useless on a stock car like mine ?

Thank you

I'd suggest an Exedy OEM-style replacement or their stage 1: http://www.mazdatrix.com/f-ExedyKits.htm. The ACT HD pressure plate will be noticeably stiffer than stock, and is overkill for almost any NA. Clutchmasters I've never heard of, so I can't comment.

#1. ACT is the best but you are being *** raped on the price.

You can get the same clutch all day long for a TURBO car for $400 shipped.

PM me and I can get you in touch with an ACT distributor that can get you a bad *** deal.
