I am doing my 1st engine rebuild on a 88 Rx7 13b N/A and I would like some opinions about the viton o-ring seals. My friend is telling me to put vasoline on the seals so it will make them swell up and seal tighter. But it is my understanding that petroleum based products make rubber seals harden up. Is this true? Would a high temp RTV be better to use or anything at all?

And also if you have any other basic advice about engine rebuilding would be much appreciated.
