Checking for Vaccum/boost leaks
This is a noob question so I posted it here, even though I am not terribly new. I had picked up the fighter garage tester http://www.fighters-garage.com/rx7.html
I was trying to check for leaks on my 3rd gen, and ran in to a situation, and I want to double check my noobness. When I put air in to the system I could not get any pressure to build because it was coming back out of my BOV. I expect that is normal and I was suppose to cap that as well right?

just make a small gasket Joe,That will go in between the Pipe and BOV,
that will allow you to build presuure alot better.
I got that same unit,Plus I built one out of some ABS and a Pool Pressure gauge.They are the Handiest things since the Pita Pocket!

Funny enough, I bought that same part a couple of months ago and experienced the same annoying issues.
You somehow have to cap off the ACV and BOV so the air doesn't leak out. IIRC, You also have to seal off the hose from the air pump.
I honestly have no idea how to properly use this thing. Its probably simple to the people that designed it but a shadetree mechanic like me needs a bit more details.
Maybe start a thread in the 3rd gen section on this since it isn't really a newbie question. I'd like to understand how to use this tool also.

You put the Pressure tester on the Turbo IN.(so it will go into the Turbo and pump air in the IC piping and to the TB)
then pump air into it..Use a GOOD compressor,not a BIKE Pump.
You will Hear leaks that are in the manifold and IC piping.
I found alot of vacuum leaks by using this HANDY TOOL.and Ya,I am an old School Back Yard kind of guy,this thing is right up my Alley!

You need to get those hose pinch offs and close the charge relief and bov. You shouldn't hear any loud hissing other wise you have a leak. I eventually got it around 14-15 psi then my dipstick started to blow off. Sprayed soapy water and found leaks on every intake gasket.
I did not have to close my airpump house. Most of the loud hissing was coming from the hose clamps on the tool not being tight enough. I did not have to rotate the engine to a certain spot as other threads have said.

is there any kind of manual that i can buy that explains the whole routing of the vacuum lines for the 3rd gen? i removed my intake manifold and found a couple cracked vacuum hoses and also there are these solenoid looking things under all the small vacuum lines and one of them has the hose connector broken off. also if i were to replace all the lines what kinda hose should i use? any help is much appreciated because i am new to the rotary scene but would really like to learn

Search "Rats nest" under 3rd gen. Also find Dgeesamans tutorial on how to check all of the solenoids and turbo stuff while you are in there. Most of your solenoids will be sticking and leaking. New ones do it too from sitting for so long. Use hose techniques silicone. They have a kit in their website for the rx7. Cheaper if you google for the kit. It's pricey but do not try to go a different route you will end up spending more Trust me! Also order all new check valves from Dale Clark on here. A whole kit is the price of one check valve from the dealer and they're better.

thanks for the info, what is your opinion on a emissions delete kit? i looked on the site rotary resurrection and the guy explains how to delete all the emissions and clean up the rats nest. is it ok to delete that stuff? (im not worried about emissions tests where i live)
