Changing spark plugs on a 3rd gen
Changing spark plugs on a 3rd gen
What is the best way to change your spark plugs? Should I change them from the top of the car or the bottom of the car? I also herd that I should run ngk bur9eq all around not 7's and 9's why is that?
I don't own an FD, but it would seem that going from the top should be pretty easy if you take off the throttle body elbow (to the intercooler). Similar engine mounting as with any rx7. And I'd just stick with the stock 7s and 9s.
do it from the bottom!!!
just jack up the car, remove the underpan and there is a hole that gives you easy access to the plugs. a 10 min job from underneath.
make sure your careful and get the right plugs and leads in the right places - it may pay to do them one at a time to be safe

Top or bottom works. I use a medium-sized 3/8" ratchet and spark plug socket. I change them blind by reaching down below the throttle elbow and replacing them one at a time. Don't do more than one because you wont' be able to tell which plug wire goes where.
It's easier from below because you can see what you're doing, but for me it's not worth the time it takes to lift the car and get under it. I think it's good to be able to do it from above because that might be necessary some day.

same here. only the T1 seems to be a pain in my car.

Seriously... I thought it was going to be so hard. It happens to be the easiest thing to change on an FD. 2 jack stands... both on drivers side....slide under so you have lots of room. and go underneith from the drivers side. Literally 10 minutes
I agree with doing it from the bottom. Before you drop it back down though, make sure you double check the spark plug wires, one of mine came loose last time i switched out spark plugs and my car was not happy.
WSM tells you to remove manifold etc etc... As said, definately easier to jack car up. I took off my front left wheel, jacked it up, and away i went. The part ifound difficult (and was still easy!) was cracking the seal of the old plugs! but yep there you go.
