carburetor assistance needed

i have an 82 engine with an 82 carburetor on it but something is wrong with the carburetor so i lose power in my engine when i run it. so what can i do to fix my carburetor and save the most money...?? the only thing is i am not capable of rebuilding the carb and not extremely mechanical, so i need a easy cheap way to get my car running right and i dont lose power anymore...

The only option is to rebuild it (50 - 70 $$) or buy a new one (200 plus in most cases). They are simple enough to rebuild, just follow the directions and take lots of pics...have you tried adjusting the idle speed and mixture? If not try it before a rebuild. If it doesn't work then rebuild id your only option

The GP Sorenson Kit from Autozone is the most complete kit you can buy for the nikki carb, if you go this route it is only 30, and SterlingMotorworks has a great tutorial for rebuilding the carb, took me two afternoons, but i also scrubbed every inch of it with kerosene

A little more description of how the car loses power would help. Does it just die when you press the gas? Does it idle? Have you tried changing your fuel filter?

LMAO. Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Shoot me a PM with your phone number.

Here are a couple of questions for you too:

1. Can the car be driven at all? It would be better if you could bring it to me, rather than me coming to you, because I'm prepping my car for a race this weekend so I'm a little short on time.

2. Have you replaced the fuel filter?

3. Have you checked to see if the lower spark plugs have good spark?

4. Did this just start happening? Is it something that came on suddenly? or did it slowly get worse as you drove it?

Anyway, shoot me your phone number, and answer what questions you can from my list. I won't have the time to do the work for you (unless it's something really simple), but I can at least take a look at it and advise you on what will be needed. We'll get you back on the road.

well i have a 1979 rx7 but with the 82 engine and carb in it instead because the original owner burnt the rotors so had a mechanic replace the engine with the 82
and i have terrefic power and acceleration, then all of a sudden after shifting it i lose the power and cant get up to even 3000 rpms, and replaced the fuel filter and stuff now looking towards the carb...the car still can be driven but i havent put new plates or insurance on it because i lose power in the engine....the sparks plugs all have been cleaned and the work perfectly and i bought this car and fixed it up myself put new black interior and everything...now on to the engine...my number is (616)780-0979 or my email is snowbreaker2408@gmail.com
we can work on a date or something but one thing else before i forget i heard of something called seafoam that cleans out that carb?? worth looking into and trying??

Seafoam is great stuff, just dump the can into the gas tank (don't try to get fancy with it).

The fact that it runs great, then suddenly falls on it's face, leads me to believe that your carb is fine. The problem may be with fuel delivery to the carb, or ignition related.

One test you could do would be to run the car until it acts up, then quickly kill the motor and check the level of fuel in the float bowls. There is a small window on the front and back of the carb, and you should see fuel at the halfway point in the windows. If you find them empty, then we know where to look.

This weekend a bunch of us rotary owners will be racing autocross at West Michigan Auto Auction, which is just North of Wayland. You should stop out if you can. I'll be the one with the red '85 GS.

I'm going to send you a PM in a minute...

Where would one go to buy one of these carbs? Ive looked everywhere and i cant seem to find one under $350.. i have found a few on car-part.com but they all need rebuilds. Im too much of a sissy to try to tackle a rebuild with the little experience i have under the hood... any links would be grand

Just my two cents - you could put a thread saying you are looking for a carb in the Parts Wanted thread for your particular year. Good luck

well i would.. but considering the fact i am a fairly new member i have to submit at least 10 posts before it will let me start my own thread.. thought i might find what im looking for before then. I found a rebuilt carburetor for $377 and i have to return my core. seems kinda steep, but i'm getting desperate.. would anybody like to save me before i make a bad decision?
