VA Is this car worth my time and money?

hey all, iv been pining for an RX-7 since the first day i layed eyes on one.
Naturally, you can understand your dissapointment when my parents said the found me the perfect car...a small, underpowered front wheel drive generic import...not exactly what i had in mind.

well i have been keeping my eyes open and today i found what appears to be a sweet deal.
but there are a few issues i would like to get a second opinion on.

currently the car is not running. the main issue is a clutch fluid leak. maybe the clutch master cylender?? all i know is i pressed in the clutch pedal and it would just stay in, no rebound. the guy i talked to said it was just the clutch master cylender, and maybe a hydrolic line?

also the car failed inpection for
3 out of 4 brakes,
steering,
and suspension.

now, for 800 dollars, is this car worth buying, towing to my house, and attempting to make it street legal?
what do YOU guys (who no doubt know alot more about thses cars than me) think it would take to fix er up? and about how much money do you think i would end up pouring into her?

thank you for any and all help,
AJ

Since you didn't give us any real details (like year, model, etc.) we can only guess.

If this is your first car, and you are young, this thing is a major money pit. The failures indicate that it was sitting or has been neglected. Figure several thousand dollars to get it back on the road safely.

How to buy guides for each generation of RX-7 are in the appropriate FAQ sticky.

sorry to hear that man. My opinion, I dont think it wouldnt have been worth the buy unless the seller was willing to come down farther, unless the shell was in good condition. You can find some good deals if you look hard enough. i just picked up an 83 gsl na for 500, needing a battery, starter, and a carb rebuild. just keep looking.

and dont be afraid to drive some distance either! i drove like 7 hours round trip for mine. was well worth it. except for the part that those seats are very uncomfortable to sit in for 3 hours. killed my kidneys!

sounded like a pretty good deal as long as you had some cash to back up the build. sorry for the loss.

ya the shell was very clean. no rust. one small dent in driver door.
but ya im still lookin. im located in central virginia, just outside richmond. im willin to go just about anywhere in VA, MD, WV even northern NC. i might be lookin at a 87 gxl in amissville. 1200 and all it appears to need is a starter and a new windshield. inspected til 6/09.

If anyone has an FC theyre tryin to get rid of anywhere around VA im very motivated with cash in hand. shoot me a PM

how much would it cost for a new starter do you think?
and would i be able to just show up, buy the car, switch out the starters and drive it home? or would i be better off jump starting it and getting it home befor i dive into it.?

A new windshield should not cost too much either, you are probably looking at a total of maybe $600 dollars for a total and not much more; so if you have that then you should be fine.

I would jump it first and then drive it home. I bought mine from autozone and it was an exact match for around $130. Not bad in my opinion. It was literally two bolts and a plug.
