Unhappy Car Turns off while idle

whats up guys my name is Josh im new to this forum but not to rx7

so heres my issue

I just bought a 87 rx7 it had been sitting for about a year.

The rubber fuel line was leaking so i changed it and now its good theres no leak.

so i start the car up its starts right up but its doesnt idle for long it will slowly die out.

I tried giving gas and when i do that its stays on but when i stop it turns off. I drove the car around my town and it drove perfect but as soon as it put it in netural it turned off.

The car has gas, its has oil i dont see any vacuum leaks or i probably cant find any. So can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Josh

If you have the car in gear with the foot on the clutch it stays on?

do a search on compression testing. my car had the same problem when i first bought it... havent really had a chance to diagnose the problem cause engine is partially in pieces.

hi , when u say the car in gear and clutch depressed, do u mean fully depress or partialy to keep your car from going backwards, like on a low incline, because if its not fully depressed the engine is under stress and the computer is sending a different mixture to compensate a bit. it is a good idea to check your fuel filter and fuel pump pressure. it may sound crazy but in some cases if the engine is wrattling a bit or moving too much in neutral since its not doing any work the knocking sensor might be at fault. when troubleshooting i was allways told go cheaper and easiest to hardest and expensive. hehe, well hope that helps.

yes the clutch is fully depress while the car is in gear and we figured it out it is the fuel filter.

and i know this is a noob question but where is the fuel filter located lol

Its located under the hood, drivers side, around the brake power booster connected to the fuel lines, connected to the engine via fuel hoses. The filter looks like this
