does the starter sound weak? if so check your Battery...use a Multimeter to check out the VOltage,etc... it should be above 12.4ish.....if ur battery is fine, and ur starter lags to Turn over....Then check all the connections leading to the starter...

Tell us more about the car. Mods, mileage, last time you did plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter etc.

Check your plugs too. You can't get decent spark out of plugs covered in carbon. Ti fix this, scrub them with a wire brush. And for stubborn stuff, try tapping it with a flathead screwdriver's blade.

One other thing I would do is a compression test. My engine can be a pain to start at times, but it runs pig rich (carbons up the plugs easily) and is showing its age in terms of compression numbers.

ok checked my battery and its all good but ive found out that when the car is idling the revs jump a little bit due to a cross so im going to replace all the leads and plugs but is this just another problem or do u think this will sort my starting problem??? also since this is my first older car in which a bit of work has been needed to repair a few things due to how old the car is, when i took my spare out of the boot i found that there was a bit of water so im thinking the seals in the boot are fucked, ive never had this problem before so who would i go to to get it fixed? thanks for all the advice guys youve been mad help

I don't think there is a restriction on post for pics. Read the FAQ and other newbie links posted in these forums to understand the rules and limits.

What do you mean by a "cross"?

Water in the boot is typically a leaking trunk rubber or clogged drains in the trunk/hatch area or leak from tail lights.
