Can someone help identify what this added part is?

Hi all. I'm looking at purchasing a 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE with the 13B fuel-injected rotary engine. The previous owner added something to the engine that the current owner could not explain. He just said that it is something air flow related. You can see it here circled in red:

I personally have no idea what it might be, only that it looks like it could be related to a turbocharger, but the car is not turbocharged. Can anyone shed some light on what this is? Thanks!

welcome to the board.

honestly, the photo is too far away for ME to see if that's a coolant line or vacuum line. however, it looks like some sort of valve that would allow you bypass whatever he/she Tee'd into the original line.

that's the best i can do until able to see things closer. where does the line begin and end?

Looks like its attached to the main fuel line, maybe the car has/had a leaky injectors problem and the valve was used to remedy the issue?

Thanks for the replies. The current owner just called the previous owner and sent me this "I gave him a call yesterday actually and he says is a bleed out valve. When you shut the engine off it keeps pressure and when its really hot it will keep the pressure from letting the gasoline bubble. And when it does that it keeps out bubbles in the fuel. And when you turn the engine off and when the fuel injectors get old it starts to function differently, so this valve prevents the gasoline to leak out in the rotor chambers. And when it does that it plugs up all the injectors and it keeps the engine from running right. So that valve he puts in is a bleed out valve so there is a little fuel for the intake and outtake of fuel. Keeping the pressure to drop really fast adding to the return side instead of the intake side so it bleeds and keeps good enough pressure. Its a brass body needle valve cracked open measured with a gauge to do all this."

so it just vents the fuel favor. sounds like an overly complicated check valve to me.

Thanks for the insight! So it seems that while it works to bandaid the problem on the short term, I should look into getting fuel injectors replaced soon.

Yessir..
While it won't hurt the car,it is better to just fix the problem.

I thought it looked like some sort of bleed valve.
