Swapping out storage bins for rear seats
Swapping out storage bins for rear seats
Quick question about the rear seats... I believe you can swap the storage bins out for seats?
How many bolts/is this easy/quick to do?
Do the seats actually fold down - or if (only occasionally) I need extra storage space are they easy enough to remove?
I'd rather keep the seats in (occasionaly may need to get a 3rd person in, short trips) most of the time but nice to know if I need to pick something large up from the store that I can make a bit more space and use it as a hatchback

Since you did not mention your CAR SERIES(see thread at top of section for future posts) I am assuming you are asking about an FC.
The bins are esay to swap out for seats, everything lines up,no drilling.
You need all the hardware to do it of course.Seats, belts, brackets(the Stays) to hold the seats back when they are up.
The seats do fold down.
Bad thing about this is your "Back seat driver" has to be 3 foot Nothing and about 50 pounds! They are quite small and uncomfortable.
Now If you are changing seats for Bins, then same thing..easy to do.
The Bin frame is fiberglass and the bin lids are plastic,so if you intend on heavy hauling from the Store then you would not want to put it in the area of the bins.

Oops that's embarrassing, I had read about that in the rules and I'm on enough car forums to know better! Mind you, I was going to post directly in the FD specific thread but as a 'newbie' couldn't.
It's an FD I'm talking about.
I'd only be using the back seats for emergencies/very short journeys, just nice to have as an option. If I had them removed and wanted to re-install, is it just a 5/10 min job, chuck 'em in and bolt down? I'd leave all the seatbelts etc in.

It would only be a very small kid... I'm not that large myself and sit with the seat quite a way forward, I've already checked this... that's not the question I'm asking
I'm asking how easy/how long does it take to fit/remove?

I had the same thoughts myself. I need(really just a want) a backseat so my little girl can ride along with me. I was curious what other alternatives we have aside from the factory 2+2 seats that is pretty simple and relatively clean looking.

How little is she? My almost 5 year old started riding with me at 3 in a booster in the passenger seat. I've been scheming on a center mounted rear seat for my almost 2 year old. By next spring he'll be grown up enough to ride along. I hope. That one's an animal.
A friend of mine in PA did the single rear seat in a FD I will see if I can have him take a pic of the mount he made for it and all the modifications he had to do it is still only good for a small child but his son is 4 and he said it works alright
She's 5, coming up to 6... leg space can be tricky though because of where exactly the booster seat sits on the car seat and whether her knee joint is in then in line with the end of the car seat; in another car I had it wasn't, so her feet stuck straight out - which meant she needed more space than an adult!
Yes I was wondering if you could make something else/mount a seat centrally... what if you removed the seats/bins and fitted a single small seat... would have to be safe/legal though...
