Can a n/a FD engine work with a SE efi system?

I was wondering if I can directly place all the original components like the air system, efi system, cooling system if I can't which parts would I need to make this swap successful. Thanks everybody and Have a good Year.

welcome.

the simple answer is yes. however, it will take careful thought. i suppose the first question that pops into mind is your reasoning for using the REW block without the turbos.

anyway:
1. you will need to use the entire REW intake because the SE stuff won't bolt to it. you;ll have to figure out how to run a custom intake pipe/filter setup.
2. you have to mount the engine. easiest way would be to use your SE front cover, timing gear and oil pan. your current exhaust should bolt-up, no problems.
3. there will be a few leaks (vacuum, antifreeze and oil) to deal with, but it shouldn't be a huge issue to surmount.
4. i'm not sure how you're going to handle the starter/flywheel - because the REW flywheel is larger than the SE unit (240mm vs. 225mm if i recall). you may need to get an REW automatic rear counterweight and 225 mm aftermarket flywheel.

that's all i can think of right now. there may be more issues though. bottomline is it can be done.

^Everything up there is spot on. You could also use an S5 NA flywheel and any recent 13B NA clutch, trans and starter.

I just want to emphasize the 'why' part of his post since you will need to be happy with it in order to consider the project a success. It'll be a lot more work to use an FD engine than a non-turbo FC engine.

The FD engine, intakes, and porting were all made with turbocharging in mind. Running it in non-turbo form will actually have less power and be less driveable than an earlier 6-port engine.

You'd be better off using an NA 13B from a 2nd gen car and using a lot of the stock NA components. S5's make a little more power, s4's are simpler.

If you have an idea what you are going to do with the car, use, power goals, CA smog requirements, etc... we can probably direct you to down a more efficient path.

Good luck with the project!

Thanks great info guys I am reconsidering this now. I have a friend that has a FD engine he sells it to me for 500 engine alone..Or he can give me the engine with a carb system, clutch, flywheel all installed for 1000(didn't mention a starter) IMO I think I might just try and rebuild my stock SE engine it seems like a cheaper route since I have all the parts (except the for the rebuild kit)What do you guys think?
