buying a fc that isn't running any pointers?

quote on quote

"Mazda RX7. Has new metallic gray paint. Body is in excellent shape. Tires are in good condition on nice wheels. Needs interior work and has engine problems. We do not know what problems it has. Please call for more information. Great project car. $1100 OBO \

Forgot has salvaged title got it from a salvage yard. We will deliver for $50. Also we looked at it and the starters out. Not sure if with a new starter it might start. Need to sell asap moving need money.
WE BELIEVE IT NEEDS NEW APEX SEALS. THEY ARE ABOUT $300. SO I AM LOWERING PRIVE TO $850 OBO. WE WILL ALSO DELIVER FOR FREE SO CALL TODAY MOVING AND NEED IT "

that's the post it'll be my first car i don't really wanna go buy it and find out the engine is a goner i mean basically i'm going to offer him 500 dollars if he takes it good if he doesn't then it's what ever the search continue's my budgets 1000$ it'd be nice if i knew it was the starter then i wouldn't have to worry about changing the seals and paying someone to do it and be f***** out of a car

so in other words if anyone could give me some pointers in what to ask or what to look for to make sure it isn't anything major but something that'll cost me at least 300 to fix would be nice if it's the starter then GREAT!!! but there's no way to actually confirm what it is exactly... or is their?

damn so many views and no help haha i guess that probably means the problem can be something as little as a starter to a blown engine..

The starter is out because the previous owner more than likely cranked it over too much trying to get it to start. If I had to guess without knowing anything else about it, it is more than likely going to need an engine. When the apex seals let loose the owner will keep trying to start it because even with only one intact rotor it will sound like it wants to start. It may even start on one rotor but will run like a tractor.

I would start searching the forum and utilize the FAQ in the beginning of the 2nd Generation section. If your straped for cash, and not that mechanically inclined I would walk away and buy another FC that is running if you really want a RX7. Having owned a few of these cars, there is no way I would never again rely on one for my daily driver.

Good luck

Apex seals means it needs a Rebuild..Cost about 1500 and up.(or buy a known used running engine).
I would be looking at the the Operation of a rotary engine to find out how it operates first, before tangling anything out of your Realm.
And despite what others say,the car can be a good little Beater daily driver,IF you treat it right and maintain it..It just isn't a Gas up and go kind of car.
