WA Buying 1st fd! Need advice!

Hello all,

I'm buying my first FD and since my general knowledge of rotary's is limited I need some advice on the purchase. Below is the link to the car for sale, the owner states it's been sitting in a warehouse for the past 5 years and it is running "rich" but claims the motor is new (reman) so it should only need some tuning.

My problem: He is located in a remote area so I won't be able to drive it to a shop to have it checked before I buy, if I buy it I'll have to be towed almost an hour home to get it looked at.... I'm worried the engine is actually shot. Any advice on things I should look for?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Will.

Its always a gamble but I bought my second RX because I felt like it was right even when most of my mates told me not to and it has turned out its alot better than I first thought. But then on that note, always be prepared to have an engine rebuild and remap.

Go to the 3rd Generation section. Find the FAQ and other useful links sticky. Scroll down to 'B' for Buying. Read.
IMO that's not a great deal for a rough running FD with no hood and an absolutely silly wing. He claims it has good compression, so let him show you figures. I'd want receipts...at least for the Reman. And if it has the stock ECU it's can't be "tuned".

X2

Be very wary of deals that are too good to be true. And NEVER believe an engine is new or reman without all documents.

Thanks all for good advice, which I'm definitely going to take, have since dropped the FD (linked above) from the running. Had a great conversation with allrotor93, should have something in the works!

The title sort of makes me Laugh.
I am buying my FIRST Fd..
that sort of implies that you already have the "rotary bug",and know that it will not be your LAST Fd!

Get a chance to see it? The guy stopped answering calls/emails after I repeatedly had to ask for more information (receipts/paperwork) about the reman...kinda shady?

I always buy a rx7 thinking that i will have to rebuild the engine..It dont look that bad BUT what you want to look at is title and run the vin thru carfax or auto check,,,With RX7 and Supra some times you will find a great deal but had been wrecked or salvaged..Think of it like this..if this car is clean and runs but just needs a tune-up its a great deal..

Be sure you're not making someone else's project your own. I learned that with my last "project" and ended up selling it before I blew all of my money on fixing others' mistakes.
