AB Broke these 2 things while changing thermoswitch (help)

Hey guys,

I was doing the FC thermoswitch mod (What a bitch for a rookie like me, lol) and I snapped that green sensor above the thermoswitch right off. What was that, and do I need it?

Also while trying to get my alternator out of the way I sliced this little tube a bit (what I think is a vacum line)
Where can I get a replacment or can it just be taped? I would rather just replace it though to be on safe side.

Sigh...

Yes, that's the temperature sensor...where the ECU gets it's coolant temp readings. Yes, you need that. Search the 3rd Gen. Section for Malloy Mazda. Call and ask for Ray. You won't need a part number and he'll probably beat your local MAZDA price.
Hard to tell by the picture...looks like a vacuum line....Most of those under the intake manifold are 3.5mm but that one looks a little bigger.

Want a more zoomed out picture? When I ask for the part, ask for a enginge coolant temperature sensor, that is the correct name for it? Looked through the forums people call it a lot of diff names....I might just order 2 feet of 3.5,4,6, and 8 mm silicone hose from Hose Techniques. So should deff replace that not just electrical tape it up lol...?

Yes, coolant temperature sensor is the proper name. There is a temp sender as well, but that is for the temp gauge.

Which little tube?

I can't be sure from the photo which tube you sliced. If it is the one just above the green connector, it looks more like a foam jacket to protect a smaller line.

Looking again at it, I think your right Robby. Nice catch. If that's just soft neoprene, it's the cover for the short rubber section of the throttle-body coolant return line. If the cut is just in the neoprene cover it's probably fine.

What would be a symptom/s of a faulty coolant temp sensor? would there be missing readings on my FC commander, or would there be idle issues? If you can list all of them it would be appreciated.

It would probably continue to idle rich like it does when it's cold...even after warming up. Maybe some hesitation on throttle. Have you checked the FSM for symtoms? It may list them in the trouble-shooting section at the end of the applicable chapter.

And yes, you wouldn't see a coolant temp reading on the Commander without that sensor. It's where the ECU get's that reading.
