Boost Controller in 2024?
Boost Controller in 2024?
Hi guys,
So I did lots of readings prior purchasing my first FD. My car is a stock 99 Type RS and I am planning to keeping it almost stock with minor modifications. Most of reliability mods will be done once it gets here. Car won't see any tracks, strictly a weekend street cruiser. My power goal is to be around 330HP. The type RS is 280HP stock and I think somebody dyno-ed it and the actual power was ~303 HP. I plan to do just some very common upgrades just for the sound: radiator, intake and catback (very simple).
Radiator: the original plan was to get a Fluidyne because of the OEM fitment but since it's no longer offered, so I am going with the Kyoso N flow and hopefully I won't have to modify too many things to make it fit while retaining everything else in the engine bay.
Intake: either Apexi or racing beat. I haven't decided yet as I am still exploring for more options
Catback: Racing beat dual tip
So with the 2 main flow mods, whatever the power is at, I will be happy with it. Also, do I need a boost controller for these 2 mods considering JDM FD's did not come with the precat? I'd like to keep it at 10psi if possible. And if I do, what are my options in 2024?
Thanks,

keep the stock air box or go with an intake of a similar design. DO NOT use pod filters in the engine bay on a stock mount radiator configuration. force feeding your turbos radiator exhaust air is in no way ideal especially on a stock intercooler.
for your goal, you will need an aftermarket ecu. all modern ecus have boost control features built in to include the power fc. you don't HAVE to buy anything additional. depending how the car responds, you may not need a boost control strategy at all. it might just be stable on its own
