you will need at least the below mods to take a stock 2000 vette
intake
dp
catback
ecu
boost controller
14lbs of boost.
a streetport will be the nail in the coffin.

I dont agree...you need more than intake and exhaust to handle him. dont beleive me...get those two easy mods and go race a few...you might beat a bad driver...but not one of equal skill. you might get him with a good launch..but he will pass you as you ease into third. He will beat you on the freeway too...60-100 and he will be ahead....Ive raced a BUNCH of vettes and ss camaros...modified and not...such has been my experience.
the mod list i suggested (including the port) will beat him enough that even if he was a great driver you would still show him your tail.
thankfully my mod list is thick enough to not worry bout the c5s any longer

I raced one with only intake and exhaust....
He would jump maybe 1/2 a car and then we were neck-n-neck till about 130 or so when we both let down. We also raced a few times with the same results.

i hate when people ask these questions, cause there is always an argument about what mods people need, its like we're all being magazine racers... we all know that every race with fairly close in power cars ALWAYS comes down to the driver... launching and shifting are what will win/lose you the race.

Just for reference, I'm able to handily beat a Z06. I'm fully modded running the stock engine/turbos. That means I have:
Intake
Exhaust
Downpipe
IC
Midpipe
Computer
Clutch
The midpipe gave me approximately 30 hp but I was able to easily beat a standard C5 with the stock main cat in place. If you have an intake, exhaust, dp and computer, you should have enough if a) your engine is strong to begin with (good compression and in good working order) and b) you're a decent driver.
I actually ran at the strip tonight with the 18" rims using Kumho 712 Ecstas, 265/35/18 and managed a best to date of 8.06 in the 1/8 mile. By comparison, the fastest SS Z28 (2002 btw) ran a 9.4. I didn't see a stock car, of any kind, break a 9.0 all night. A Lightning F150 running 13psi managed an 8.1. A BPU auto Supra ran a 9.0something, his best all night. Scary! I've attached my time slip. I'm on the right.
My advice is to perhaps go from a rolling start, preferrably when you're at approximately 4800rpm and can just nail it. You'll pull two car lengths on him right away. If it's from a standing start, you'll have to ride the clutch a bit (not good for the clutch but good for launching) out of the hole to stay in the boost and keep excessive wheel spin at bay. Nail the launch and it's probably all over. Most of the C5 guys, if they're 6-speeds, make the mistake of revving too high on launch and smoking the tires. If it's an auto, and stock, chances are it's a low 14 second car, high 13's when everything is just right and he knows how to shift it. Practice, practice, practice!
