Bolt on Performance

Hi All,
Have a new all stock 85 GSL SE. Any recommendations as to what would be the best bolt on performance items that can be added to increase HP. Don't really want to do any major modifications.
Thanks,
Steve

Let's see what the SE guys have gotta say...usually my first answer is exhaust as a great bolt-on, but heavy mods would be required to keep all the systems intact that the FI needs to work right. I'm sure the guru's have got better ideas, let's see what they say.

hmm...no major modifications? rats nest removal would be a good start. what would you conciter major as far as modding? i don't think an exhaust would be out of the question at all.

best thing at the moment yould be to seafoam your motor, and run some through the tank to make sure your injectors are nice and clean.

learn to take advantage of what you have before you start much modding.

Exhaust
Intake
Ignition
After that street porting, which of course will involve rebuilding the engine and will be very expensive.

Well, the 13b in a GSL-SE is very similar to the non-turbo 13b in 2nd gen RX7, so...

Upgrade the exhaust with a nice set of headers and catback system. Whether you keep a catalytic converter or replace it with a presilencer/resonator is up to you, but either way you'll have to address the auxilliary ports dilemma. These intake ports will only open when exhaust backpressure reaches >1.8 PSI, and the pressure they see is due to the split air pipe. The split air pipe is attached the the main cat, but modifications to open up the exhaust can reduce overall backpressure. Certain aftermarket exhaust parts will have locations to reattach the split air pipe, or you can make your own.

Intake modifications do very little on 6 port NA motors, so basically exhaust is the only choice for bolt on performance.

did you consider maybe doin suspension or brakes first. i know horsepower is fun, but with performace suspension, or brake upgrades will allow you to get harder in to the coners, and really tighten up the car! but have fun building your car!
