Bogging at WOT?
Hello! I was hoping that someone would be able to help me figure this out.
I have an 85 12a bone stock and when im on the highway i have noticed some bogging/surging.
I have used the search function and come up empty handed. All i can find is 13b items...
To tell you alittle more about my issue. It started when i went to take it for a quick run on the highway at 140kph at about 4000rpm in 5th... I let off the throttle and jammed on it again hoping it was a onetime thing. Nope.
Next time was this morning on my way to work at about 100kph at 4000rpm in 4th...
I was hoping that one or two of you guys may have some suggestions. Thank you in advance.
Also can anyone provide me with a link to a working ratsnest removal guide...

I don't have a link to the removal guide; the best way to search the forum is to search "rats nest removal guide rx7club" in google. Our search feature sucks.
the bogging is too much fuel, or too little fuel, depending on the carburetor it could also be that the choke is flopping closed when you mash the throttle. My old shitheap truck did that, may it rust in piece.

So i bought 8' of vacuum line today because im beginning to think that this may also be/is a vacuum line issue (cracked or broken). Talking to a friend of mine who has worked on carbs for bikes said it may possibly be that the secondaries are not opening fully.
Is this a possibility?
This is a quick breakdown of when the bigging occurs:
1st gear - WOT to redline - no bogging
2nd gear - WOT to redline - no bogging
3rd gear - WOT to 4K - no bogging - 4K to redline - I have to keep it under 2/3rds throttle
4th gear - 2/3rds throttle and under or else it bogs/hesitates
5th gear - 2/3rds throttle again
I would really like to fix this myself instead of taking it to a shop that has no idea what tey are doing... I mean a carb is a carb is a carb and they all work basically the same, but still i dont wanna put it into the hands of someone i dont trust. My mazda dealer here wont even touch it.. Kinda makes me sad in a way...
Btw chiltons are useless... Lol

Well, it does sound like a fuel problem to me. Seems like the issue is under the heavier load with WOT in high gear with less gear reduction the engine is starving for fuel. At least that's my opinion, but I am by no means an expert on this particular subject. What is causing the starvation of fuel I would just be taking a guess at though if I were to speculate on it so I leave that for someone else.

well, to me, it sounds like low rpm+lots of throttle = bog
highrpm + lots of throttle = delicious braps.
I don't think it's a vacuum issue as those usually are idle/highvacuum symptoms
Clean the carb, find someone near your altitude with a similar carb setup and set yours up like theirs.
That's about the best advice I can offer besides to buy a jet kit and just start playing with them until it works.

So its the next day and my 7 is very happy redlining in every gear now... Changed all my plugs (Gap was way off and crap brand), wires, distro cap (Really worn), rotor (also worn)... Took it for for a quick drive seemed alot better... Then brought it to my shop and replaced the fuel filter (Which is prolly the easiest one ive ever done). After that the car ran like a dream....
So i guess this means problem solved! Thanks for the help everyone!
