Troubleshooting window problems. I took the window control unit out of the drivers side door. Underneath I found a blue box. I don't recall seeing this in videos or pictures of other cars. Is this part of the door mechanism? Or could it be aftermarket? I believe my car was originally outfitted with a 3rd party remote door lock and security system. See pic for more detail.
Definitely aftermarket, looks like a 2-wire Lock Actuator. DEI is the company that makes Viper alarms, along with a few other brands. If that date code (08/1994) is correct, it's been in there a LONG time too.
Appreciate the reply! That makes sense. The car is a 94 and I found an old fob and other components of a security system that was installed when the car was new. The next step will be to remove all that stuff. Unfortunately I don't trust my skills.

A more accurate quote would be: I don't trust the skills of whoever "installed" this. Your hesitance is well-founded, I've seen how "shops" do install work up close. To quote Aaron Cake: "I want to find people that do this and castrate them. Because if they do wiring like this, God help us if they reproduce..."
In your picture, that looks suspiciously like a drywall screw. Probably a safe bet that this was a Best Buy install job, so you're bound to uncover some hackjobbery. Such is why I do all of my own wiring work, I've never seen a "shop" do it to my standards.
The first thing I would suggest is to get the FD's Workshop Manuals and Wiring Diagrams here: Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals
