Yes. I did a write up with pics in the 1st Gen tech board a long time ago. Not too sure if the pics are still on this server, though.

Luckily, all that stuff is dirt cheap at an auto parts store. I wouldn't bother with used when it comes to the starter.

A weak battery usually gives out the dreaded click-click-click sound. Spinning but not engaging tells me your $200 reconditioned starter was wired wrong at the solenoid or that the solenoid was reused, even though it's at least 18 years old.

Bad move on their part.

Exclamation Starter motor problem!

i have a S1 79 13b rx7,
just had the starter motor reconditioned because we belived that was why it wouldnt start
put it in it still wont start, it just shoots out but wont spin
the battery is brand new, its reading around 12.3 volts,
i played with the positive terminal on the battery it sparked and the starter kicks in!
the key is off, the ignition switch is new!
the the battery is connected the starter motor just starts spinning and turning the car over!?
the only way to stop it is to take the terminal off the battery?

what is my problem!, this car is pissing me off!

Mar3 is probably right, it sounds like your starter solenoid, not the starter motor itself. The solenoid should bridge the high amp current to the starter motor only when the switch supplies the low amp current to the switch side. It sounds like the solenoid is sticking and sending current to the motor all the time, or not at all. Check the low amp side (switch wires with a multimeter to make sure the current is actually shutting off when the key is off and on when the key is on. If not, the problem is upstream of this, probably a bared wire somewhere on the way to the solenoid. If the current at the solenoid is acting correctly, you most likely need a new solenoid.

the starter motor is fine,
ive taken it back out, and have tested the volts going to the terminals of the starter
the negative should always have 12 volts going to it, i know that
but the positive has a constant 12 volts going to the starter aswell
