alternative parts?

Can i get certain parts off another sort of car? If so what car? I have just aquired a 1983 rx7. At the moment i need a bonnet, an alternator, a radiator, a clutch fluid reservior and a carby. Ive heard that a 4 barrel holley will work. Is that right? Would any of these parts from a more common (and cheaper) car fit straight on or slightly modified? I cant find/afford (at the moment) the original parts. Please help!!!!!!!! :/

Technically you can put a Holley on our cars....but be careful. You'll need an aftermarket intake manifold (Racing Beat is the most common, but you can find knock off's), and make sure your Holley is jetted and specially built for for a rotary....IMO you're better off getting a Sterling Nikki (sterlingmetalworks.com)...but do some research.
Alternator, you can do a direct swap with a S4 or with a little work you can put in a S5 or some others from domestic cars....plenty off write ups in the 1st Gen Archives. Just use the search at the top of the page.
Not sure about the bonnet.....radiator...again S4 or S5 can be swapped with a little work (currently people talking about in in the 1st Gen section).
Good Luck

Wot about a carby from a 13B? Will that fit? Do I need the manifold that goes with it? Is it the same carby?

12a carb is a nikki,, 13b carb is a hitachi

while you can fit a 12a carb onto a 13b manifold by porting the runners and repositioning the studs
-- you cant add a 13b carb to a 12a manifold
( because its a wider stud pattern than the 12a and will physically not go )

will also add that if you have an aussie domestic ( holley ) 465 they are major PITA to get to work
-- you need the RB modded one
also,, that big RB manifold is intended for LHD vehicles,, in RHD ones,, they can clash with clutch and brake booster if used in the smaller old school bays
-- then if fitted to block adapters ( like for an s4/5 block )
,, they clash even in an rx4 ,, and just clear in the rx7

If I get the 13B carby it will come with the 13B manifold. Does that make it any easier?

o sorry my apologies. i was at work and didn't even pay attention to the user id. keep an eye out in the classifieds section. aftermarket carbs come up for sale more often than stock ones do. the only thing off the engine that can be used on both 12a and 13b is the alt. and depending on the yr model it came from, they'll be specifics posted here on how to wire it up. check out some salvage yards near u. u never know u may get lucky and find an aftermarket carb and intake for real cheap.

Best bet if you are on a budget would be to rebuild the carb that you have. Rebuild kits can be had for about $30.00 and if you can follow instructions you can do it in an afternoon.

Pretty much any other carb will also require a different intake manifold, upgraded fuel pump, and a fuel pressure regulator.

A Sterling carb is another great option, because it will use the stock manifold, but the wait time can be quite long. www.sterlingmetalworks.com (at his site, there is also a huge library on the stock Nikki carb, and a forum to ask carb questions).

Thanks everyone but it turns out the carby I was asking about is just a 12A carb on a 13B manifold. And it's in awesome condition. I also got a few other parts although I still need an alternator and a radiator.
