IN Alright guys here is a good one

Now i know i haven't posted much, well i haven't posted any but it is because i have been in the market for a good FC or FD. Well here is my dilemma. I have found an 1991 Rx-7. Body wise this car is in great shape, the few dings and scratches here and there. That really isn't the problem thought. I have seen this car in person one time today. I have found multiple bads. First off, well the car is painted black over red. The engine bay, trunk and door jams all are red and yet the outside is black. Almost like a previous owner rattle canned the thing. After that the inside isn't god awful but has some major flaws also. It seems that both seats of the car are ripped to shreds, not only that but the thing is dirty on the inside. The locks and power windows do not work. The door handle on the outside of the driver side door is just kind of hanging there. It does work but i felt like i was going to rip it off. The next bad thing i found on the car is that the "FlowMaster" exhaust he says is on it seems to be falling off which may just be the cause of bad hangars but i haven't really gotten the chance to look under the car. He also said that the transmission was leaking fluid but he says it is fixed now. Worst thing about that is the fluid was basically gone and the transmission locked up on the side of the road one day for him and he had to get it towed. That could mean the gears are eaten up but i cant be for sure. Some goods though is this thing seems to be making good compression from what i can tell. I am having it tested soon and will get back with the results. It starts up easily but needs some time to warm up but i am pretty sure most of them tend to do that anyway. The guy wants $1300 for it and i am not completely sure it is worth that. I am not making any decisions on it until i get the compression test results and i have a chance to bring it down to our garage and look it over. Please give me some feed back over this car. Like i said i am not too sure this car is completely worth $1300.

No it is not worth that much money. It sounds almost as bad as my car and I can't even sell it for $500. (88 convertible) Is it a 4 or 5 lug car? I wouldn't pay more than $1000 and i think that is still high. There are allot better deals out there. Look in the classifieds on this site.

If you dont plan on spending big $$$ to get the car 100% I wouldnt buy it. Interior parts are pretty scarce now a days and the way you had described the car it sounds like it has been through some abuse.

IMO save up a bit more and start with a car that you are confident in. Fixer uppers on these cars will usually cost you 2-3 times more than what you paid for.

Nope, wouldn't pay it, all the stuff that's broken is the hardest to restore.

I am restoring my 84 SE right now which I am keeping as stock as possible. When I get that finished I would like to get one to modify and play with.
I would rather get one with good interior, no fatal rust and blown engine.
The engines can be rebuilt lots of parts around, lots of options to install newer ones if need be. Rotary engines are relatively cheap to rebuild, although the turbos can get spensive. And who knows you might get lucky and find one that's just flooded.
