Angry All gauges stopped working!

Whats up rotary enthusiast? My name is Ricky and I got issue that has me burning up! None of my gauges work nor my odometer. Where should I look first? Is this a common problem?

I jumpered around the starter cut relay because of starter problem. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but now my odometer is dead.

It helps to post the year, model and any mods. Did this happen suddenly as you were driving down the road or after some repair or modification?
I'd think the first place to look would be fuses.

Checking the Meter fuse would be a good start.

Odometers (and tachs) have a habit of going bad after 15+ years due to soldering and other small items. Search the 3rd Gen section for Odometer repair or buy another cluster or if you have $800-$1000 you can get a custom one from Speedhut.

Thanks for the input. I should have been clearer. Only the odometer is dead. All other gauges are working. I pulled the METER fuse just to be sure. It wasn't blown and all gauges fail with it out. Thanks for responding!

My 94 fd gauges never worked. Checked all the interior fuses and there fine. It just sucks having to guess when to fill up or using a gps for figuring out how fast I'm going among other things..

Cool

Wow, this car is weird! I can't explain it but I jumped in for a quick trip to the store and the odometer is back! I had done nothing more than pull and replace the METER fuse (which killed all the gauges...at least oil pressure and gas for sure...I didn't start it) but now all is normal. I still have the jumper around the starter cut relay and I'll leave it there rather than pop for a new relay. I know they have nothing in common but that's what started this whole thing. Thanks again to all who responded.

Hi Roy! There is a huge rotary community in Orlando...a great group of guys! I make it over there several times a year just to hang out with them. Come to the SE section of the forum and introduce yourself!

In regards to your cluster, I would find someone who is REALLY good with electrical. My guess is one of two things is happening.

1) You have a short somewhere that someone needs to back trace and discover.
2) The soldering points and/or transistors on the back of the gauge cluster are going bad with age (common occurrence). Some people have had success re-soldering and others just buy a used one. Lots of info on this if you search in the 3rd Gen section or in the Interior/Exterior section.

In regards to your fuel gauge...some things to check for:

1) Is the sock on the pump clean?
2) The float CAN break off with age or have things make it stick.
3) If it is an aftermarket pump and not wired correctly it can make the gauge and low fuel light stop working.

You will be fine with Supratech 2 stroke from Walmart. Go nuts and buy super expensive stuff if you really want. =)

Ok so like a dumbass I gave the mechanic the benefit of the doubt. I decided to check the tranny.... What is this I see! two out of the three plug on the tranny are missing! if you craw from the passenger side and your looking at the transmission from left to right 1 2 3 the first plug is connected the 2nd and 3rd are not to make it better I cant find anything that would! Could that be my problem? He ran a microtech so I check the computer and behind it there is a plug thats not connected.Male end is blue the other white what would this run and should I take the chance and connect it and run a risk of frying something? I should have taken it to someone that did things right! Lesson learned!
