Advice on Transplanting a different motor in my RX7

Have a 83 Mazda RX7. I am on my 3rd motor. I am really seriously thinking of putting a Toyota motor in it this time. I just can not keep a Rotary running, and it is getting so spendy to keep rebuilding them. Any thoughts??? Not racing it, just daily driver. Help???

Check the Engine Conversion sub-forum. If you are mechanically inclined, it's a project but not any more difficult than any other swap.

Why swap the motor, sell it to an enthusiast that'll appreciate it and buy yourself something more reliable.

just to let you know it seems a lot of the guys on this forum hate swapping out rotary's. Norotors.com is a good resource for just about any swap into a rotary vehicle there is. hope that helps

None taken I'm not against it I have a 91 vert sitting around that has a blown engine I'm hoping to swap for a V8 in the next year or so but I also love the rotary in my 87 GXL I respect anyone that takes the time and money to build things right no matter what it is

I love my car, just had bad luck with rotary and want a reliable daily driver. They are gonna to rebuild it one more time and hopefully this time it last for a bit. I really wanted to leave the rotary and keep the car complete, since is the 2+2 with a back seat. Just rather drive it then let it sit. Problem is in my area, there is NO ONE in town that will even work on a rotary.

I had two different FBs that were stupid reliable for me. I had over 200k on both cars. Regular oil changes, premix, and maintenance makes all the difference. You will need to find out why you've gone through three engines. That is not normal.

Agreed. My father had an SA that got to 480 000 km (300 000 miles) and two FBs that got to over 240 000 km (150 000 miles). If you are getting a really short life out of your engines something else must be wrong.

Who is doing the rebuilds for you? That may be the issue if they don't normally work on rotary engines. I would also highly recommend that you give premixing a try if you are not already doing it.

most likely using junk parts, because good 12A parts do not fall out of trees.

It's more interesting to know why you are going through engines. NA rotary engines are dead reliable. How are they failing?

Yeah I've never heard of rotary engines failing like that.

Thank You for all the ideas - Gonna keep the Rotary :)

Found a experienced rotary guy to put the "Little Red Bitch" (That's her name cuz she has been so much trouble) back together for me. Fresh motor and yes we are pre-mixing this time.
