How much slack? A little slack (say, 1/8") is normal.

I had QUITE a bit of slack. when slack is pulled it starts fine. when slack is present, it wont start period. When I adjusted it on the cable, now it idles at about 2k rpm's. what do I do?

Okay, yes, there is supposed to be slack in the cable. If you tighten that cable to remove the slack, you risk bending the throttle shaft on your car (a very bad thing).

But when it is adjusted to where it wont idle so high, it wont start unless a second person is pushing down on the throttle from under the hood. im assuming it has something to do with the throttle plate clearance? how do i adjust it?

Does it only do it on cold start up? how does it start after it has warmed up......

It can be alot of things at this point.

you need to give us more info.

I suggest getting a factory service manual for the 7......

what happens is, when I go to start the vehicle, it will keep cranking and cranking. If I try and start the vehicle with a second person pushing down on the throttle, opening the primary plate, right before the 2nd's open up, it will start. it idles a little bit funny. a little high, but if I adjust it to be a little lower, about 750-900, it will die if you try to give it any gas(as if It has a fuel pump issue). If I tighten the accelerator cable to have the primary plate already open, it starts fine, however, the idle sits at about 2k rpm's(and that's with the idle screw on top adjusted ALL the way down!).

I just took the TB off, and adjust a few things, and we'll see how this works. See if it fixes anything....

I SURE HOPE SO!

Set the slack to the specifications in the FSM, then make sure that the lower single throttle plate is at least slightly open.

Don't make arbitrary adjustments to the throttle body. You will just mess up the action of the secondary throttle plates.

Check the cold start cam assembly on the rear of the throttle body to make sure that it holds the throttle slightly open when the engine is cold.

Make sure the TPS is adjusted to factory specs.

Make sure the BAC valve is plugged in and functional.

Check the ASV valve to make sure it is plugged in and working.

Once you have the engine starting and warmed up, follow the idle set procedure in the FSM.

asv? I am NA? exactly how do I go about checking the cold start cam assembly on the TB, I made sure it was to factory specs yesterday. it had three lines. two right by each other down low, and then one lone line a bit higher. I made sure the cam was in the middle at 77 deg Fahr.

From what it seems like, this is my issue?

Many of the answers to your questions can be found by consulting the FSM. There are links to download your own copy in the FAQ. Also, the Haynes manual is a great quick reference.
