AL 93 FD Learching past 1/4 throttle Please Help!!!

Hey all I need some help!!!
Ok so here's what its doing when I press the throttle past a 1/4 the way it learches real bad almost like theres not enough fuel or air but at full throttle seems good. So I have looked around and checked almost everything. Well there is no Check engine light and the light does work on start up. I went ahead and did the code check and the light does not come on. So then I thought it might be the TPS well I stuck a multimeter on there and I'm not so sure whether if that might be the problem cause it seems that there might be some openings. I'll go back to that. I'm going to change the Fuel filter. I have changed the plugs as well. Mind you that this car only has 43K on the clock and it has done alot of sitting. Recently I have been driving it alot and dumping seafoam trough it thinking it was old fuel and a dirty injector. Well if any of you could help or tell me who might be the right shop to take it too to get it looked at near Southern Alabama

Thanks Brad

What mods does the car have?

Can you get it to rev all the way up under no load?

It doesn't have any mods bone stock. If I have it in park increase the throttle it has no problems and thats why I'm on the fence about it being the TPS. Could it be the injector needing cleaning? Or could there be some part of the emissions that I'm over looking?
Thank you for the help

I would check for ECU codes to see if there are any 'ghost' codes hiding in there.

Checking the TPS is a good idea too.

Are you sure it's not a transmission problem?

It could be the TPS. I doubt it would be the injectors because it doesn't do it at idle. What rpm does it do it at? If it's just a throttle thing, it makes me lean towards the TPS.

Have you recently unplugged any sensors and/or changed the battery? Mine did a similar thing not too long ago where it lurched if I stepped on it past a quarter throttle. The FD was deflooded and the fuel pump relay was pulled out at that time. After deflooding, it produced those symptoms and a quick disconnect of the batter, tap of the break, wait 15 secs, connect the battery fix it, did the job. Basically, the ecu had to relearn itself even if the relay was in place. This wouldn't hurt to try if you have already checked the TPS.

So today I R&R the Fuel filter. I don't think I could describe in words on here what I tought about that engineering feet. I was thinking that they played a horrible joke on Americans as I cussed Mazda. Has anyone relocated the Filter some where else? So when I removed the filter I noticed lots of brown goo coming out of the IN side of the filter I looked closer and discovered it to be Microbial growth crazy right. Well like I said that the car has been sitting so water built up in the tank so they grew and grew and clogged the filter. Anyways I also drained the tank as well and some came out nasty and smelly. I'm still not so sure thats the fix but I know it will help. Thank you everyone for all the great ideas I'm going to try them all one at a time till I get this thing right.

That sounds like a big step forward.

Yes you can relocate the fuel filter. Some people put it in the engine bay, others just move it down from above the differential but keep it in the rear of the car.

Me, I don't put a lot of miles on mine, and have left it alone.

Don't use seafoam on a rotary engine. Especially a turbo rotary. Its a quick recipe to a blown engine.

First off I want to tell everyone thank you so much for all your input. Second the car is now running good the fuel filter was the problem and I hope this thread will help others. So I replaced all filters and changed all the fluids and then took it for a spin real fast lol. But unless I'm getting old and desensitized I remember my last Rx7 being faster when it was stock, could be because its an auto not sure. Anyways thank you all

Even though your issue seems resovlved, keep in mind that it could be an injector problem. I had a similar issue and after going through changing the filter, installing a pressure gauge, etc. I was it helped somewhat, but the problem presented itself again. Pretty much I had full pressure and throttle. around 3k rpm, the car would lurch as if it was out of fuel. Turns out it was a problem was with a problem with a primary injector. Rotary performance was able to diagnose and repair it in an afternoon within a couple hours. I guess it was a common enough of an issue that they knew what to look for.

Well Dan it seems your right cause I drove it for about 30 miles and the problem returned "CRAP" well I guess the next step is to pull the injectors and send them off to be cleaned. I hope this will fix it cause if not I guess the next is the TPS or ignition system.

Its easy to check the TPS. Go to the 3rd gen FAQ thread stickied in this forum:

Scroll down to the T section where you will find a few threads on checking TPS using a voltmeter.
